1. Pride:
What have you been a part of creating that you
can’t help but brag about to anyone who will listen?
Ehm Autoproduzioni is probably the thing I’m most proud of accomplishing..
It’s a small Italian indie Self-Publishing house and we, the founders and members,
worked really hard to get where we are. I’ve always wanted to tell stories and having this
much freedom while working with great, talented people is something I will always be happy and proud of!
2. Envy
What Indie Title are you currently a huge fan of and recommend?
Anything by Attaccapanni Press or Collettivo Canederli, honestly!
Both Indie and Italian and I love their works! Also, Marassa, by Evoluzione Publishing!
3. Lust
What is a Dream Project of yours??
I’d love to work on a project with different media: comics, animation, theatre, music…because every media would give a story a different perspective, a new “color”.It’s what I tried to do with The Dead Waltz (with the help of Claudia Milazzo, trusted video maker) and what I hope to do again and better in the future.
4. Gluttony
Is sexuality used to freely to sell comic books?
That’s a complicated question that wants a complicated answer. The hyper-sexualization of the female body in the media is an issueand it’s something that must be discussed in today’s society… but thisdoesn’t mean that having nudity or sex scenes in a comic book isinherently wrong. I suppose it depends on the comic. I’m not a fanof generalizing, nor I want to semplify a multi-faced issue like this one.It is sexuality used to sell comic books? Well, yes. It is wrong? It dependson the comic. I don’t mind nudity and if that story is – example – an erotic one,I don’t see the problem. Maybe it would be nice to have more variety of bodiesand genders when it comes to nudity and sex in comics. It would be moreinteresting, new, and it would also cater to awider audience. I think this would be a simple way to settle the issue.
5. Anger
What is the worst thing a Villain can do to a Hero?
Making the Hero realize that they are not that different from the Villain. The Hero has, usually, the moral high ground, but what if they were forced tomake a choice between doing the right thing and saving someone they love? What would they be willing to sacrifice to protect what is most precious to them? The world isn’t black and white. Something that it’s good for me, it’s not necessarilygood for you. I think that making the hero doubt his ownmoral, his own character, would be a big crack in their strength.
6. Sloth
Which Character is so overrated given
the power you would kill off and why them?
I honestly don’t know. I don’t think I’d kill off a character I think
it’s overrated. It’s just a matter of how your tell their story…
so I’d just tell theirs in a different way, even
though I can’t think of anyone right now.
7. Greed
What is a mistake you made in your early years that our
readers can learn from and not make themselves thanks to your advice?
Enjoy – your – success. I have always been VERY hard on myself and my work.
For a few years I have never let myself enjoy the small victories because in my
eyes, that wasn’t enough, I could have done better, maybe it was just luck and
not actual skills – but instead of helping me become a better artist, being this harsh
with myself only slowed me down. It’s ok to appreciate your work, even if you know
that you wanted to do better. Of course being arrogant is not the solution, it’s
important to be aware of your skills and stay humble, but hating yourself because
you’re not “good enough” is only going to make it harder for you to show your work
to others, to accept criticism and improve as an artist. Take that compliment, let
yourself be satisfied with that page, enjoy what you are
doing… or else it will become too stressful. Perfection is not an option. Move on.
Well done you have a single paragraph to tell us
why we should become fans and what you
are working on now:
I’ve always wanted to tell stories, in any way I was given the chance to.
To me, stories have been an escape first and a mirror later and I
hope I will always have the chance to be an escape or a mirror for anyone who
will ever need it. If my stories give you relief, even just for a little while, I’ll be more than
happy to take you on this journey away from what troubles you… and if you see yourself in
any of my characters, I’ll be honored of being able to tell your truth. – I’m currently working on
“Willowisp” for Evoluzione Publishing (On Kickstarter from February 13), on Frikis (episode 4)
for Ehm Autoproduzioni and I’m also writing another story… and I won’t be the one drawing it
this time! It’s about Italian witchcraft and, more specifically, Sicilian folklore!
My island is full of legends and magic and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
