Alter-Life: Issue 3 of 5 (Limited Comic Series)
Caleb Thusat
Answers his Kickstarter ALTER LIFE 3 of 5′ s
WS:: What is your Goal and Why That Goal amount?
Caleb: We are shooting for $5,000 on Issue 3. This gives us $3,000 for artwork, $1,250 for printing all comics and add-on, and about $250 for shipping materials and postage. The remaining $500 goes to the % Kickstarter takes. Issues of Alter- Life are in the 35-40 page range, so we need a decent amount of money to cover art, coloring, and lettering. This story wouldn’t translate well into 24 page chapters. We hope that we can blow past the $5K goal this time and put some money into getting a jump start on Issue 4. The more we make on this one, the less we will need on the next.
WS:: Why is this project important to you?
Caleb: Making comics is my passion, and Alter-Life is a very powerful story with universal themes that I think will resonate with a lot of people. This is the story I believe best encapsulates my writing style, and hopefully will be a launching pad for my future in writing comics.
WS:: Why go through Kickstarter?
Caleb: Kickstarter is great. It allows me to interact with my fans and future fans, and let them be a part of the journey to create. I love the interaction and excitement that is built throughout the campaign. I would love to create these comics on my own, but the reality is, my day to day obligations make it hard to afford. Kickstarter makes it possible for passionate creators like myself to tell their stories.
WS:: What makes your Kickstarter Stand Out?
Caleb: I wrote this story at a difficult time in my life. It comes from a deeply personal place. Everyone questions their choices in life, the path that has lead them to where they are now. Jake’s story is part introspective thought, part mystery, part philosophy, and part science-fiction. It’s unique and thought- provoking, and I think everyone will be able to relate this journey to their own lives.
WS:: Will this be an ongoing series?
Caleb: This is the 3rd of 5 issues. The story of Jake in Alter-Life will be complete at the end of the 5th book. The world I have built may be something I build on in the future, but the story arc you are reading today will be finished by early 2018
WS: How are important are you Stretch Goals?
Caleb: At this point, I am not focused on stretch goals. All of the money that is raised will go to telling the story and printing the add-ons we are currently offering. If we jump over our goal, I may consider adding a bonus to everyone’s reward package, but I would rather put surplus money into the next issue than blow it on stretch goals.
WS: If you saw this project, pretending it wasn’t your what would do you think of it and how you would react to it and Why?
Caleb: I write stories I love. I think if I came across Alter-Life, I would definitely be on board to help the series continue. Science-Fiction that is wrapped in mystery and deep philosophical themes has always been something I loved. Blade Runner, The Matrix, Looper, Dark City, and Dune just some of the books and movies that inspired this story. If I saw Alter-Life and related it to that type of story, I would be in.
