The steampunk supernatural mystery web comic mini-series Boston Metaphysical Society is coming to print with publisher Source Point Press. The first issue debuted at the Source Point Press booth at L.A. Comic Con on October 26th 2018 .
Boston Metaphysical Society is a six-issue mini-series written and created by Madeleine Holly-Rosing, with art by Emily Hu. Nominated for an Airship Award, 3 times for Steampunk Chronicles Reader’s Choice Award for Best Webcomic, and for Best Comic/Graphic Novel at the Geekie Awards, this fan favorite story has found a new home with Source Point Press.
“We strive to feature high quality stories from creators doing next-level work,” says Source Point Press Editor-In-Chief Travis McIntire. “Boston Metaphysical Society is just that; it’s taking comics to new heights.”
The comic takes place in 1895, but in a timeline where Steampunk technology has taken advanced strides into modernity. There are steam driven rudimentary computers and electronics, and dirigibles rule the sky. But with these advancements comes social and political upheaval as not everyone is comfortable with change. In fact, many people fear it. That fear and the violence that followed caused a psychic rift to puncture the veil of space and time, allowing the entity known as “The Shifter” to escape. The Boston Metaphysical Society, comprised of an ex-Pinkerton Detective, a Medium and Spirit Photographer, and a Scientist Extraordinaire, is the only chance of destroying it.
“I’m blown away by the artwork in this comic,” says Source Point Press Founder and Art Director Joshua Werner. “Emily Hu has successfully blended a modern style with a period piece in a manner that’s exciting and beautiful. The color work from Gloria Caeli and Fahriza Kamaputra, as well as the lettering by Troy Peteri, work hand-in-hand with Hu’s art in successfully achieving this endeavor. We’re excited to welcome this title into the Source Point family.”
