Arledge Comics kicks off 2018 with a new project under their belt: an all-ages anthology. After four successful campaigns in 2017, Jenn Arledge (ALEX PRIEST, FUTURE GIRL) returns to Kickstarter with TRIAL RUN, an anthology with the mission to assist new and developing creators. This anthology features work from novice creators to those who have created previously, assisting the creators expand their portfolios.

In addition to new creators, Trial Run features cover art by Julia Hutchinson (FRESH ROMANCE VOL 2, Emet Comics) and interior cover design by Emmett Helen (MY RIOT, Oni Press).

“TRIAL RUN’s origin is a bit of a funny story. I was out of work for a couple months, recovering from shoulder surgery,” says Arledge, “so I sat down and started writing what would become the initial concept of TRIAL RUN.” Arledge also stated that TRIAL RUN was intended to be a 20-page comic, but had since expanded to the anthology that it is today. TRIAL RUN now features more than 20 creators and contains over 70 pages of full color comics.

All of us have – at one point or another – wondered what it would be like to have superpowers. One young man’s wondering is over. Jon is the only child of superheroes – and as he approaches his 18th birthday, he realizes he has some big shoes (or boots) to fill.

TRIAL RUN follows Jon’s misadventures as he learns what it takes to be a hero. He’s given a collection of special teas – each one bestowing upon him a different power, allowing Jon to take each power on a short Trial Run. He’s finally got his chance to be a hero. He only needs to settle on a power.

TRIAL RUN is Arledge’s first project with anthology editing and explains, “I’m really proud of what I and this team have created,” and hopes that the readers enjoy reading it just as much as they enjoyed editing it.

Rewards for this project include digital and print copies of the anthology, and a sticker sheet featuring designs by TRIAL RUN contributors, and bookmarks, with each stretch goals’ primary focus on providing the creators more pay for their projects.
