FAVORITE COMIC BOOK:
Growing up:
Spawn and Batman. I grew up in the 90s. Back in the days when you wanted to watch cartoons you had to wake up ass early on Saturday mornings and turn the channel and tv volume by the nob on the tv set. There was nothing I would do that would make me miss Batman the animated series, X-Men, Spider-Man or the other Batman cartoons, Batman Beyond, Batman and Robin ext… I loved Batman comics and Spawn. But I had Green Lantern, Spider-Man, Superman and stuff from my dad’s collection like the Warlock, Srg. Rock, The Mighty Thor ext.. I didn’t read those much to be honest.
and now:
My favorite comics now are Spawn. I’m basically re-reading the first series. I’m also reading Kingdom Come graphic novel and also a Green Lantern novel. Also reading the savage Dragon for the first time. I’m not too much familiar with newer comics. I’m a huge fan of the silver age thru the 1990s comics. I like to believe my original comic has a lot of influence from the 1980s and 1990s comics in it. From the art and story plots. Just something about those eras drug me in as a comic book fan and I’ve pretty much never left. Haha.
The 1 Superpower you want:
This is very tough question. I’ve actually thought about this before just as a game with my wife. We both asked each other after watch the flash on Netflix. I think I would want the power to control time. I’ve always wanted to time travel.
Location: Originally born in Columbia, SC and later living in East Pittsburgh but currently residing in a very small country town on the boarder of Pennsylvania.

need to be taught manners and Myke Metts might just be the man to teach them that lesson

Why are your talents going to be able to grab the attention of potential fan?
“I think I will be able to because I heard a saying once, If 1 person likes something than odds are 1 million people like it too. There’s a market for everything. The problem usually becomes can the product reach those people within that said market. I’m not creating this comic just for money and I think anyone who reads this comic or looks at my art style can see that my comic comes from a place of passion and love for comics, not for money. Although I am a family man and we don’t live in a world where things are free. But I grew up loving 80s and 90s cartoons and comics. The stories, the art styles back then. And that’s why I’m making this comic. To add a piece of my love for that era and the styles. To contribute to in my opinion one of the coolest eras for comic books. And anyone who enjoys it also will see and hopefully appreciate my comic book for it. I think it’s that that will make people fans of my book.”
Right now what indie comic book has your full attention?
“ok. Truthfully I do own some indie comics and have read a good bit but none have really drug me in to the point I have to have every issue and find out what happens next just because it ends on a cliff hanger. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the story and the art work. I actually like a bunch of indie characters and enjoy reading people’s original creations.”
What are your long term plans for your current title?
“long-term? Ok… haha. Well very long-term my plans are to have a mini clothing line for my comic, toys, kids school supplies, my comic in every shop across America and hell, even in shops in other countries, signing issues at Comicon and Barnes and Noble for a huge line of passionate fans. Halloween costumes, Hollywood block buster movies, cartoon of it on tv. Break a part mini series of different characters, team up issues and cross overs with some of my favorite characters. Maybe Kane and Batman, Kane and Spider-Man, Kane and Punisher or Kane and Spawn and the list goes on.”
Has being a father changed how you view the use of females in comic, IE not making them just eye candy??
“I may be judged for this but my answer is honestly no!I’m a father of a 4 year old girl and 1 girl due next month. My reason is simple. As comic book writers, or like musicians, or whatever form of entertainment we are not responsible for kids. I am only responsible for my kids. And I raise my kids to separate fiction from reality and raise them to be respectful and to have morals. If I draw a vigilante who cuts off the head of a crooked cop and a reader decides to do the same than I am not responsible. Just as if kids watch a tv show and the actor who plays daredevil is acting in the show and goes out at night and beats up bad guys into a bloody pulp. If a kid goes out and purposely hurts a person and is arrested for assault how is it the actors fault? It’s the parents responsibility to be a parent. Not ours as comic book writers, artists ext… if I draw a woman with big boobs and a fat butt and looks like a porn star and when my daughters are old enough to read my comic they will understand its entertainment and not appropriate for them to dress or act like that. It may be a double standard for men and women but the world already has its ways and set of rules. But that’s life and life was never meant to be fair. I don’t think we as creators or entertainers should ever bare the responsibility of another parents child.”
What is something that makes you personally mad that you address in your comic?
“I’m not sure really. I understand a lot of things happen in life everyday from views or beliefs as something from your subconscious but as of now nothing I see I’ve done intentionally that makes me mad has shown up. But I do have plans for things in further issues.”
Do you think people dressing like thugs to be cool and acting like thugs are painting targets on the back of today’s youth? Arent we teaching kids to put themselves in harms way? Or is self expression of who they are more important than the potential problems that acting and dressing a certain way can cause?
“I believe in being who you are. And I don’t believe in steriotypes. Tattoos, baggy pants don’t make you a “thug”. Just like yoga pants and Nike running shoes don’t mean that girl is actually on a track team. Or a leather jacket and tattoos actually means this person even rides a motorcycle or a girl in short shorts and a low cut shirt is a slut.”
“Maybe he likes rap music and doesn’t have a criminal record. Maybe he grew up in a environment where if you dress like your not from around here you’ll find trouble. Maybe the guy just likes leather jackets and tattooes, maybe his granddad was in the air force and the tats and leather jacket reminded him of his grandfather and it’s his way of showing respect. Maybe the girl in yoga pants and Nike running shoes just wants to feel comfortable, maybe the chick wit short shorts and a low cut shirt use to be bullied for being fat and she worked really hard to get fit and now she’s proud of herself and confident for the first time in her life.”
“My answer is simply, focus on yourself. If somebody doesn’t like my clothes then keep your eyes in a direction away from me. My answer is #1. The kid who grew up and lived in the type of environment where this was the norm. You are what you surround yourself by and that’s not always by choice. I changed my lifestyle, grew up and live in a safer area and am a family man but I like the way I dress, it’s what I’m use to, who I am. And who I am is not a “thug”. I think people should be more focused on judging by actions instead of clothes. I don’t believe kids who dress “thuggish” are a target. I believe all black people are targets. That’s what the government and society wants. A race war. Doesn’t matter how your dressed in America, it only matters your skin color and who you know. The problem was never clothes, it was always a skin color. People just do not want to face the truth and accept the fact that we as a society are nothing more than pons. It’s a race war. I’m not racist. I’m just not the kind of person who sugar coat’s anything. The day this country wakes up and realizes that we are stronger together and that’s why the people in power want us divided will be the day all this ends. Scientifically speaking we are no different. Black, White, Asain, Idian, whatever. We all bleed the same. Our hearts all beat to a rhythm. That’s the truth. It was never a matter of dressing a certain way unless you choose to look at the issues of this country from the angle of a person unwilling to see beyond what your being told.”
What superhero is a Dud and need a bullet to the head to put them out of their own misery ?
“none. Even if I feel a person’s creation is in my opinion dumb, it doesn’t give me the right to want them dead. Haha. I’m sure they have a very personal reason why they are passionate about there creation and that’s good for them. I wouldn’t kill off any hero. Lol”
So while I doubt that THE 7 DEADLY QUESTIONS have learned any manners this much I do know, They have come to respect you MYKE METTS, for your honesty and candor.
So go ahead and Give the readers your Elevator Pitch:
“Kane- a magical, mysterious, brutal action packed comic book filled with monsters, murder, supernatural anient magical powers, female gods of 2 realms fighting for centuries and one man to stand and fight the realm of darkness as the queen of darkness sends her minions to do her evil bidding and to free her from her realm. A man is caught in between a normal life compared to what he sees is really not a fuctional movie. A trained assassin and master thief for hire goes on his last mission when he finds himself caught in a portal and his flesh and eyes being ripped out as bone spikes rip threw his flesh and a voice appears and gives him a second chance to defend his city and avenge his family that he failed to save as he watched his only son, 3 year old Michael strangled like a rag doll untill his head popped and his wife brutally beaten and gutted like a deer right in front of him and he could do nothing. In the act this man did something that opened a portal to a female god of the light realm, the good sister of the evil queen of the realm of darkness. He realizes this world is never what he was meant to believe, monsters do exist, magic and supernatural powers are real and the decisions we make sometimes have far worse consequences than we could ever imagine. Life is really a fairy-tale story, just not the kinds were told as kids. The kinds that we had to sneak and be up late and watch on TV while our parents are asleep in bed. The rated R movies we had to get our older friends to buy our tickets and sneak us in. But this is not a fictional movie. No… this was real life. And only one man can make a difference as the ghosts of his wife and son haunt him every time he looks in the mirror and sees failure. He is no longer human. He is… KANE.”
