Dynamo #1 – A Legacy in Danger
JUMP in the RING with Dynamo
STORY LINE
In a world where anything is possible, Dynamo has been able to do the impossible — as the strongest man in the world. One of the first of mankind to discover his super powers, Dynamo for years used his uncanny super strength to save lives and change the world. Dynamo was one of the first of the super powers to join, and the SFC, as it was called, became a house hold name for wrestling entertainment and with it Dynamo’s fame and legacy grew… However, it all seemed unreal for Dynamo. And underneath all of the bravado, Dynamo, the strongest man in the world, felt as if none of his life was actually his, that somehow it has all been meant for someone else, and that somehow, I’m some cruel way, he was living a lie…
Years have gone by, and with the waning of time, countless heroes and villains have fought, inside the ring and outside. Now, as Dynamo has tired and nears time for retirement from the squared circle, he begins to have strange feelings and then visions of another life and of an unspeakable action that makes him question who he really is and has been for years. Dynamo is a story about what it truly means to be the world’s strongest man and the fight it takes to accept who you truly are.
I was excited when asked to write this series for Dynamo. I love everything that Marcel Dupree and Evoluzione Publishing is doing. They are fighting the good fight. I also loved that Dynamo is part of the SFC Universe, a world that is very diverse and full of interesting, dynamic characters.
As excited as I was to write Dynamo, I did have one hesitation. Pop culture is filled with white male protagonists. That’s always been the case. I grew up surrounded by them from Luke Skywalker to Indiana Jones. As a kid, I saw so many movies and read so many books where the protagonist was a white male, and the director / writer was also a white male. That’s how I learned to see the world – through the lens of a white male. With Dynamo, I wanted to do something different, something that sets him apart from the usual white male protagonist.
That’s when I started thinking, what if Dynamo becomes woke and realizes that everything he is, all the success he’s had, came at the expense of someone else. Not just anyone else, though. It came at the expense of an African American wrestler.
