The Story So Far –
Home is about a young woman named Elysia, who was born with natural blue hair. Because of this, she was made an outcast in her home town, and circumstances caused her to live a very lonely life. That is, until she found out she could see and manipulate living computer code. A Code so powerful, it took her to another world…
Not just any world, Altaria. A land of Knights with futuristic weapons and armor, and monstrous beings called the Schrief that are unlike anything she’s seen before. Despite being new to this world, Elysia was welcomed with open arms, and she even made friends among the Knights of Altaria. But the stress of the constant attacks by the Schrief caused her to snap, and act in a way she’s never done before.
To make matters worse, Garnon found out that an army of Schrief were right outside Altaria’s walls…
Understanding Where You Are In Life
Home #5 is the end of Elysia’s story. Yet, you might be confused about the title, as it’s not exactly “climatic”. It would’ve been easy to do “The Last Stand” or, “The Rise Of The Knights” or something classic like that, but Home has never been about that. It’s always been, for me anyway, about the characters, and Elysia is the main character, so I wanted to make sure her final issue had a title that meant something true to her.
So what does “Understanding” mean? What does she understand by the end of the issue? Well…that would be telling! But I can say this. Her journey as I played it out was very intentional. From talking about her past, to going to Altaria, to interacting with the Knights, to now, it’s all served a purpose. What that purpose is may surprise you, or it may not, that’s up to you.
Regardless, I promise an ending that is fitting, and heartfelt. After all, I love Elysia just as much as you do dear reader, so why wouldn’t I give her a proper sendoff?
An Issue With Many Stories
Make no mistake, while Home #5 is about Elysia, there’s still a lot going on with the Knights. I set a lot of things up in Home #4, and #5 is the payoff.
There’s of course Elysia, and what she does (oh man…what she does in this issue…), but Sonia has some big moments here, as does Garnon, and the rest of the Knights!
Oh, and there’s that army of Schief I showed off at the end of Home #4…something should be done about them I think…
