“With the launch of Into the Suck #2… a dream continues… January 28th is a special day. It was specifically chosen as the launch day for this Kickstarter campaign because tomorrow would have been Keith Thomas’s 45th birthday. Keith was the creative genius behind the Suck! About two years ago I was between assignments and I contacted Keith to ask if he wanted to do a book together. We hadn’t worked together since Cricket: Agent of U.N.I.C.O.R.N. from Big Dog Ink. I pitched him two ideas I had for a book and he countered with half a dozen. I read this premise he had about this badass girl from the Suck. She had a mission to complete along with her sidekick – winner winner chicken dinner! I said what about the “sci-fi” one and he said, “Awesome, I’ve wanted to do that one for awhile!”
Several conversations later… many sketches, character designs, spaceship designs, environmental designs and we had our world! It happened very easily. We quickly contacted PH Fuller – the colorist known as Oracle to render our universe in all its vibrant glory. And did he ever! Oracle exceeded our expectations and became an integral part of our team. The books look was capped off when we recruited the super talented letterer Kel Nuttall! Throughout the process – Keith’s only requirement was to allow the creative team to do what they do best! I think that philosophy worked out pretty well! The only thing we didn’t count on was Keith’s illness. It didn’t stop him from finishing the series. And it hasn’t prevented his influence from guiding this process and now it’s time to honor Keith and his talent! I hope all of you will help spread the word about this series and make it the success Keith envisioned it to be! Throughout the next couple of days, weeks, months, years… I will be telling you more about the other creators and artists that have pitched in and contributed to our little project! The picture attached is a small part of the final cover for Into the Suck #6. A lot of you will recognize the character. For those of you who don’t… it’s Keith Thomas… the heart and soul of this series. It’s my single favorite thing I did for Into the Suck… including Keith on the final cover. And yes, he did get to see it. And yes, he loved it. He said it brought a tear to his eyes. So tomorrow… I launch Into the Suck #2 for all of you who are fans of a great story and Indie Comics and..
FOR KEITH.” -CB Zane
