- Quick Description of the Title in the Creators own Words:
Joshua Black
‘JOSHUA BLACK is a dark comedy/fantasy series that follows a reluctant teenage deity who inherits the throne of Heaven.’
The only eligible, living descendant of Jesus Christ, seventeen-year-old Joshua Black has inherited Heaven’s throne and all of the burdens that come with it. After a violent encounter with his abusive father the night before, Joshua, whose family had been devastated by a tragic accident years earlier, wakes to find that God has undone the terrible event that ruined their lives. Joshua quickly learns that it wasn’t an abstract God who rectified the situation, but that he, himself, is responsible for all of the changes happening around him. He also discovers that he has been burdened with an immense amount of power and responsibility.
- 1st impressions of the title. I meet MARTIN DUNN through WrittenSins.com and our interview process The 7 Deadly Questions. So I was introduced to it while reading up on Martin Dunn for his upcoming interview helping the 7 mold their questions. Martin Dunn was one of the 1st creators we interviewed. With that said when I 1st saw the book for myself, it came off as a very different story that I not only wanted to read but had to. And obviously, I Did.
- Was I entertained and excited to turn the page? Throughout the series of 8 comics, I can honestly say I never wanted to put down a sinless issue and was annoyed if life got in the way of my reading the issue cover to cover.
- Did it leave me wanting a next Issue/continued story? The story never felt like it got stale, in fact, there seemed to be a plan in action from issue 1 through 8 which made the story flow naturally. While from issue 1 to 8 the overall quality increased you can still go back to issue one and it still stands up. The growth of the creative team was organic and what you want to see happen over a series run. You can feel that the team is always trying to make a better comic than the last one they put out.
- Where the characters relatable & interesting? YES, I have felt I could be a god myself.. who hasn’t? Kidding aside the characters really do seem to leap off the page full of life that draws you into the story. I Loved that the stories were not simple and instead mimicked real life in levels of complications and there is a unique honesty in that type of storytelling Joshua Black uses.
- What are my overall thoughts on the Comic? Because this is about 8 issues run of a title I had the opportunity watch the character grow and develop which is amazing when done right, and Martin Dunn did it right. I love comics that really exam the human condition and the battle of good and evil. I believe Martin Dunn is a great story teller and did an excellent job telling a story about religion a very dangerous subject to touch, and he did it with respect to its use and made very complex and interesting story that was is a fun thrill ride for fans to follow with many twists and turns. Martins way he is able to answer the questions you might have about Angels, Heaven and hell are awesome. And you a left HANGING and the end of the last issue DEMANDING MORE!
- Do I recommend this comic to others? ABSOLUTELY! This is an Andersin Approved Comic Sadly the comic has come to an End on CAE but…
Coming Soon and after you read all 8 issue NOW on Comixology there will be a RETELLING OF JOSHUA. Now don’t you dare call it a reboot. Call it a Divine intervention. Imagine you are the heir to the throne of the universe and you have the power to change all of your mistakes and missteps, would you go back and try again…. but it wont be with CAE Studio’s, JOSHUA BLACK going to:
What does this cryptic message mean for JOSHUA BLACK?
Does this give us a clue to whats next? Is the move to Source Point Press a simple retelling of Joshua Black? It certainly looks like something much bigger is in store for JOSHUA BLACK Fans.
As if this end to a 7 year Journey with CAE isn’t emotional enough to deal with for the creative team and fans a constant supporter of JOSHUA BLACK was recently lost and sadly will not to be able to read the continuing story of JOSHUA BLACK on Source Point Press. (At least not on Earth. They have to have Comics in Heaven or it wouldn’t be heaven right? ) In a Very Touching Tribute JOSHUA BLACK ended his reign on CAE with this tribute to a fallen fan, creator, Podcaster and close Personal Friend of Creator of JOSHUA BLACK Martin Dunn :
JOSHUA BLACK will return on Source Point Press soon and will be something that will excite established fans and motivated new readers to become fans and force them to go back to Read the Series 1st run of JOSHUA BLACK on CAE!
