taught the Ripper everything he knew…
To write a comic about a serial killer did you do any research on serial killers?
“I’ve always been fascinated by serial killers. I spent a lot of time in my late teens reading nothing but literature on them and since then its boiled over into writing about them.”
Do you have a morbid fascination with serial killers and do you consider yourself a fan of one of them?
“I wouldn’t consider myself a fan. I just love to get into their head. They have a different sense of what is acceptable and that’s what I find so interesting.”
Do you think serial killers will soon be called terrorists?
“No, terrorists usually commit one act and then kill themselves. Serial Killers like the fame and notoriety. They revel in it.”
In a day and age of sex being ever where and every one being very active why do you think sex is such a motivator of violence??
“Having sex with someone is an incredibly intimate thing to do. It can lead to being open in a way not all people are comfortable with. I think thats why it can lead to violence.”
DO you think the punishments for laws breakers is an adequately deterrent for people from committing crimes?
“No, not at all. We live in a world where a guy can rape a girl and completely ruin their life but only get 6 months jail time. How can that even be a thing?”
DO you think Greed is the root cause of the worlds suddenly violent out break or is it something deeper?
“No, I think it goes a lot deeper. We live in a world where the most corrupt people are politicians and bankers. Where the police can be seen murdering innocent people. Where people believe a media which just sends out fear and spreads hatred into the world. We live in a seriously messed up time and everyone has access to it 24/7.”
What was the worst serial killer movie every made and why?
“I thought Wolf Creek was horrendous, they kept going on about it being a true story but none of the girls survived to tell the tale. If it was just a regular horror film without all that true story shit I would have enjoyed it a lot more but I just kept thinking, “How the fuck do they know?” and it pulled me out the film. When a film relies on tension as heavily as it did, you have to be able to stay in the moment.”
Well done James McCullochyou you have The 7 Deadly Questions spooked so take a paragraph to tell us why we what you are working on now and what cons we can find you at if any :
Issue 5 of City of Lost Souls is currently in production. I have issue 2 of Little Girl Black coming out in September with issue 3 hitting the shelves in November. I’m looking at putting the trade together for it just now but that’s just in the planning stages right now. I’m co-editing and have an ongoing story (Karyn Shade) in the new monthly anthology series Comichaus which starts this month.
Other than that I’m working on a horror one shot with Dan Charnley and numerous other scripts. I like to keep busy. It took me a while to start writing comics so I’m going to have as much fun as I can while I’m here.My next few conventions are MCM Scotland, Fort Con in Fort William, and Thought Bubble.
Thank you for your time
James McCulloch
