Kerry King presents
Phantom Lion Issue #1 Comic Book
Why did you feel you need Kickstarters help to launch your project and will your goal if reached cover all the creative costs? I need Kickstarter to as a hub. KS gives a limited time, specific goal, specific offers, a way to collect money and contact information. No, I spent way more on the creative costs than I am asking back.
How did the creative team behind
this Kickstarter Come together?
I have to say that I am picky when it comes to
finding the right artist. I searched through
Facebook, Instagram, Fiverr, Deviant Art,
and many other sources for an artist who could
bring my script to life. After talking with quite
a few artists, I really clicked with Jeff Batista.
He was available, with reasonable rates and his
artwork was the right quality. You wouldn’t believe
how many great artists are tied up with contracts and
a heavy workload. Then using the same method, I
was able to find a colorist that was willing and able
to help. Steve Canon is crazy talented. He truly brings
the art to life. Finally, I found a letterer that
suited my taste: HdE. I had a particular look in mind
and he has it. I told him that it looks like what I
am familiar with and he told me that he tries to look
like the Marvel/DC comics that we are all used to seeing.
Thankfully, nobody left the team before the end of
the project. I would love to have everyone back for round 2!
What do you believe separates your Kickstarter
from the thousands of other Kickstartes out there?
There are many good vs. evil stories out there,
but they are all different: GI Joe, The Incredibles,
Spider-Man, GI Joe, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.
Mine is unique as well. I may never reach that level,
but Phantom Lion is worth reading. I hope to pack a lot of
entertainment value in those 24 pages. My characters are
highly developed down to their eye color and Myers-Briggs
personality. Issue #1 is only the set up for much bigger
things down the road. Stick with me and I’ll take
you on a wild ride.
Is the Kickstarter the Start of something
Bigger or is this a must have One Shot?
The first four issues are sketched out. The first
one is actually complete and the second script is
complete. Each issue highlights one new character.
Issue #1 features Lenny Conrad’s transformation into
Phantom Lion. Issue #2 tells the rest of the story of
Circus Master. Issue #3 features … well I shouldn’t say yet.
Just stay tuned.
Are Stretch Goals something important to
your project or just your way to give
back to the Backers?
Stretch Goals are a way to give back to my backers.
I am excited about all three! I can always add more if needed.
If you saw this project, pretending it
wasn’t your what would do you think of it and
how you would react to it and Why?
Great question. I really like Phantom Lion’s look, so that
would probably get my attention. Who knows. I may have
overlooked it and missed out on a cool story!
What is the inspiration behind this project?
My inspiration comes from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
G.I. Joe, Wolverine, The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the
Rings, The Incredibles, scripture, and all of my work experience:
I was a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, owned a Jittery Joe’s
Coffee Shop and as a Registered Nurse. I have had quite a few careers.
Ok those are 7 Great REASON so Give em that Elevator Pitch, Creator:
