The Creative Process: Creating a comic con table Code of Conduct
As we add a rule we agree on it will be added here from the comments or the site.
1 Always engage your fans or potential fans. If you’re having a conversation and someone approaches your booth/table stop what you’re doing look them in the eye and welcome them in.- Ruben Romero
1b This should be done within Ten seconds. That is the Standard in retail and your are a retailer whether you like it or not. Rob Andersin
2 Profit can not be you motivator because if they are you a might puch to hard and lose fans. Honestly the best goal is to BREAK EVEN. This do not include your time. The point is to get your name out there.
2b If you are after profits than hook up with a few others who are selling and get a bigger table. If you simply want to make money sharing a table is the best bet. Having your own table is all about marketing yourself and building a brand. And if you arent building a brand than it does not matter where you sell it so join other merchants. Make a bigger shop- Dave Music, Martin Dunn and Deon Brown
3 Ensure to develop a few different elevator pitches (being mindful not to say the same thing to people in line to your table), have tangible work either completed issue (s) or at least a mini comic of your story, portfolio work of some of your best and relative works, have items not only to sell but who doesn’t love something free even a post card that reiterates your pitch and links to your story or series. Remember your cell phone is not your friend….you’re there to network network, network, you’re amongst your peers, met people, your chair shouldn’t even get warm from you being in it. – Kevin W. Knight
3b Have someone also that can help not just watch while you take a look around to met others but also interested in the story that can invite others to it. Have supplies Ready to draw even if it’s not your character someone may feel your work reminds them of another story and wants to see your skills. -Kevin W. Knight
4 Remember you never know who you have the privilege of speaking to or who they know so keep your excitement be inviting the whole time even if you have a table for a few days or one. You are your story…not just the comic laying on the table before them. This and others are the moments for others to see not only the story you present but the artist, writer (s), the creative forces behind the work so ensure you put your best forward and have fun in the moments. Those lonely hrs drawing? Yeah its show time now.-Kevin W Knight
