The 7 Deadly Questions are the type of Villains who win in the end!!
What is the thing you are most proud of creating? My very first creations were Zeta Stro and Avion, the three alien superheroes that appear in The Wrath of Steelis and in the Xenton Chronicles Book series. I remember concepting their idea back in the 9th grade and actually did a quick intro comic for them. Sadly, my skills weren’t that great back then and my comic drawing skills weren’t all that. So I held off on that project but just let you know how annoying they were in my head, just talking and giving me ideas, lol it was crazy. Back in 2007 I came up with the characters the Xenton and wrote their books and thought, hey, why not throw Zeta Stro and Avion in the mix, that aughta be fun, and it was. Book 2, the Invasion of the Coalts, was the first superhero crossover I did and it was both fun and unexpected!
What item for collecting are you currently seeking to add to your collection? All of the Power Ranger Legacy Toy collection. I’m a huge power ranger fan. I’m wearing the green ranger’s communicator right now as I type. I have a shelf of all the figures, megazords, morphers, and weapons in my office. You can say I’m obsessed!
Do you think Cons have become cheap money making event because of fan art, or has fan art add a level of excitement to cons? I believe if you’re a good artist then you should do your own character fan art. And what i mean by that is create your own character and make that shit look hot. Because here’s why, there’s tons of artist in the world both paid, and unpaid who do great things with spiderman superman, avengers, iron man and all those things. How about taking that same level of enthusiasm drawing characters who have already made their mark in this society, and put it into your own creations. That’s why I dont draw any fan art of any superheroes but my own. Yes, I get it! Its a chance to show off your skills but at the same time, show off your skills with your own heroes and characters so when people see that at your booth they’ll ask “Who’s that?” And BOOM! you’re on your way to making your first sale if not a long term customer and follower.
What is a IP you need to work on in your lifetime? Not sure what IP means lol but if i had to guess i would assume that it would be something with goals and accomplishment. Regarding that aspect, i’m always open to criticism and learning and trying to figure out a better way to do something. I’m always asking for help and other people opinions because those are the people who you are trying to get to come over and read, watch, or buy whatever it is you’re working on.
What superhero pisses you off so much you would off them given the chance?!? I really don’t have a superhero who pisses me off. I really more of a story guy. I don’t care if the character has whack ass powers or origins. WHO CARES! The money is in the storytelling for me! Especially any kind of mythos.
What is the line where you consider yourself successfully? I will consider myself successful when i can turn around and see a little kid dressed up as one of my characters for halloween. Or even people lining up to buy my books or even warner bros coming to me and asking to produce a movie. I will find myself successful when every person who reads my books and comics can escape and return and can’t wait for the next adventure to come.
What is the best advice you could give a younger you or a brand new creator reading this? NEVER GIVE UP! Success never comes over night! If you really want your work to be successful, you stay up late and wake up early and grind. While everyone else is partying, playing pokemon go, video games, you should be working. But don’t overdo it. Your passion should outweigh everything else that’s happening right now. Put down the xbox controller, turn off the netflix ( unless its in your office where you can work and watch) and get to work! There was a time for a year straight, that if i was going to finish my comic series The Wrath of Steelis, that i needed to be up at 5am everyday. FOR A WHOLE YEAR! You sleep when you’re dead, because time is the one they’re not making any more!
Well done you have a single paragraph to tell us why we should become fans and what you are working on now :
My main goal in life is to leave behind a legacy for my kids, grand kids and great grand kids. So one day they can look on TV, or pick up a book, and say that my granddad created this. I live for the legacy so when i’m long gone, there will be something here for people to remember me by. Some people live an average mediocre life and that’s fine. wake up, go work 9 – 5, come home, sleep, and do it over again. That routine gives me the chills because i had that life once upon a time and it made me miserable beyond compare. I figured, if i gonna fail at something i love, i rather do that than succeed at something i truly hated. Because you only live once and it all comes down to how many people you help, the lives you change, and the impact you make on the world and i believe that through my books, my comics and my heroes, that i can and WILL make an impact on this planet before I die, of not after.
